A New Milestone in Forensic Genetics: MiSeq FGx Installed in Ljubljana

Date of publication: 21. October, 2026

Successful Installation of the MiSeq FGx Sequencing System

We have successfully installed the MiSeq FGx Sequencing System at the Institute of Forensic Medicine, Faculty of Medicine, University of Ljubljana, and initiated the first sequencing run using the Verogen ForenSeq Kintelligence Kit, together with Assoc. Prof. Dr. Irena Zupanič Pajnič and her team.

This installation marks an important step in the implementation of advanced next-generation sequencing (NGS) technologies in forensic genetics in Slovenia.

Advanced Technology for Forensic Genetics and Human Identification

The MiSeq FGx Sequencing System, combined with the Verogen ForenSeq Kintelligence Kit, enables the analysis of more than 10,000 single nucleotide polymorphism (SNP) markers, supporting distant kinship analysis and forensic genetic genealogy.

This technology can help identify missing persons and unidentified human remains, as well as generate new investigative leads in cold cases.

It also supports the analysis of challenging forensic samples, including those containing small amounts of DNA or degraded DNA.

Successful Collaboration with QIAGEN

We would like to extend our sincere thanks to Mirella Perruccio Soler and Michał Boroń from QIAGEN for their expertise, valuable support, and excellent collaboration throughout the installation and initial sequencing run.

At Mediline, we are proud to contribute to the advancement of forensic genetics in Slovenia through innovative laboratory technologies and successful professional partnerships.
